illness = boredom

yesterday at 7am, going to work
Hello again,

apparently I (and J also) caught a flu last weekend so this week has passed by feeling more or less sick. On Tuesday I went to work but I shouldn't have done that, it just made me feel even worse. On Wed I went to the health center and they prescribed a few days of sick leave for me. On Wed I wouldn't have had a shift anyway, but I had to cancel my Thursday shift. And I hate being sick, it's so so so booorinnngggg...! I just hung around here watching Sex and the City and all the shit that was offered on TV. On Thursday I was already so frustrated that I asked J if we could go to the movies, and we did. We went to see Ted, I had thought that it's a children movie, and that's why I wondered why it's R16. But now I see why :D But at least I liked it, haha.

On Friday I went back to work. I wasn't feeling perfect but neither did I need sick leave. Yesterday I had a long day there (and now I'm feeling worse again). After work my sister came to visit me, we haven't seen each other in a few weeks so she came to hang with me for a while. J came here in the evening and we watched The Dark Knight.

Today we didn't get up from the bed until it was 3 o'clock or something, lazy asses! Luckily this is a day off for me, hope I'll feel better tomorrow because I'm gonna have four days of work in a row again. Have a nice Sunday :-)

once again ...

.. I'm feeling sick. surprise surprise! I don't accept this anymore. The reason must be the same as the reason why I was sick all the time last summer: mold. Once I've been exposed to the mold damage (in my apartment last summer), I'm more sensible to have a reaction against it again, even if there wasn't much of it. And as in our current apartment, there had been some kind of a renovation in our bathroom due to a moisture damage before we moved here, I'm sure there's some mold left in the structures/fabrics, maybe not observable but enough to cause a reaction in me. The symptoms are exactly the same (as those that I had last summer and as they are described in various web pages): prolonged cold / flu symptoms, coughing, sneezing (ALL THE TIME), sore throat (killing me), blocked nose, irritated&itchy skin, skin rash, itchy eyes, headaches etc. Like a prolonged flu without fever. Frustrated? Yes! Irritated? Yes!

Oh well. I felt terrible this morning, then it got better, but now it's worse again. I'm a bad person and I didn't go to the English class (I would have become even more frustrated there - yesterday we were only three students there and we practiced verb infinitives & -ing-forms..).

Weather has been too good lately. Sun sun sun, no clouds, no wind. I'm sweating at home, at school, outside. All day long (okay evenings are good). I shouldn't complain (because I hate coldness) but this goes almost over the top. In my opinion, +26-28 would be an optimal temperature in the daytime, but at least yesterday, I was going to school at 7pm and the thermometers outside still indicated +31 degrees. At 7pm?! And it's only May.. this is not normal :D There wouldn't be any problem if I could spend the days lying on the beach - but I can't! Maybe on the weekend... if my throat hasn't killed me by then.

PS. I've run out of the salt liquorice :( now I have to wait 'til Finland to get more of it, nooooo!! I'm also craving the basic oatmeal porridge, Elovena's apple-cinnamon oatmeal porridge...

weekend

My weekend with the flu: school work, handkerchieves, sniffling, Pepsi, food, Californication, lollipops, nails, the Body Shop's Coconut products, frustration, sadness, happiness, laundry, Cosmopolitan (Spanish!!).

On Friday I had the morning classes (i HATE 8.30 classes, especially as I don't have any other classes that day, feels so useless to wake up so early just for those classes). I felt terrible (I think I had fever), it felt like I could pass out at any moment. I did a lot of school work that day and still didn't get those notes done (a powerpoint -presentation of 43 pages..). I also visited Mercadona and in the evening some Finnish people came to our place. I would have enjoyed the company a lot more if I hadn't felt so weak and tired. Even though I felt like that, I couldn't sleep until 2.30 or so. Blah.

Spanish economy ... <3

On Saturday I felt even worse. Everytime I wanted to get up from the bed I felt like fainting. Luckily the kitchen and the bathroom are right next to my room. I gathered energy for quite a many hours by eating and watching Californication (one season in one day .. nicely done!) and finally I got up and ready to go to Mercadona (I was about to run out of Pepsi.. and I also wanted something goood). Just a quick visit and then back to home, but I still guess it was good to have even a little bit of fresh air. Then I just continued with Californication.

On Sunday, today, I've been feeling a bit better. Okay I'm sniffling all the time but at least I don't feel like fainting anymore. I have still taken it easy, watching (surprise surprise) Californication and so on. I visited one store (the only one open on Sunday) to get more Pepsi (yea i know.. too addicted) and some chocolate. And I have to say that I actually liked the weather today even though it was very cloudy - still +24 degrees! Cloudy days are rare in here, so I've started to appreciate them more. And on sunny days, I always feel obligated to go out even if there wasn't anything special to do. Today, I didn't feel obligated to go there but I went because I wanted. Got it? I don't mean that I wouldn't like the fact that the sun is often shining but I just appreciate different types of weather in a different way now.

During these quite boring days I've had particularly much time to think about everything. Even too much time, I'd say. My thoughts could also be described as homesickness. Well it hasn't been as bad as during the first weeks here, but the point is that as I've been feeling weak and lonely, I've missed someone to take care of me and to be near me. I've missed my family, my friends and - especially - J. People I love. My own apartment. Someone to hug me. Or to just be near to me. As I said to J one day, I can't wait to see my sister - well of course because I miss her - but also because I just want to get a proper hug! Without even mentioning how much I'm waiting for seeing J himself..! After all, I'm quite physical person and I need the closeness. I knew it before, but not until now I realize how much I need that. M (sister), promise me you hug me tightly then (in 10 days we'll be there, in Barcelona)!

PS. There's one more thing I miss a lot..........

Don't take that in a wrong way, I don't drink much, but the fact that ciders are not popular (or good..) here (and I don't drink beer) makes me miss my favorite cider a lot!!

not again.....!!

The weather has been nice and warm lately, about 20 degrees everyday so how is it possible that i'm feeling sick again?! I don't accept this. It took many weeks to fully recover from the flu that I got soon after I arrived to Valencia and I'm so not gonna go through that again. Constant tiredness, earache, sore throat and I'm sniffling all the time. C'mooooooon.... NOT AGAIN! I feel so frustrated.

At the moment I don't have power to do anything, and I shouldn't take a nap because then I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. I had marketing classes in the morning and I still have english classes in the evening. blah, 6 hours between them.. Frustrated? not at all.

Well, at least I have something to look forward to:
in two weeks I'll be in Barcelona again! It has been almost 2,5 years since we were in Barcelona with V! It's definitely time to go there again. I'm gonna go there on March 14th and return on 19th. I <3 BCN. Here are some pictures from our BCN-trip (Oct. 2009).

PS. last Sunday, there was an opening ceremony for Las Fallas here in Valencia. Now there are fireworks everyday in the city centre 'til March 15th, and then the real carnival celebrations begin.

new year 2012!

So as I've mentioned, I spent my new year's in Oulu, central Finland with my boyfriend. We stayed at his parents' house (= his childhood home) and I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else, or with anyone else. I enjoyed my time there and it felt so BLAH to come back home (I flew from Oulu to Helsinki yesterday).

As I didn't post anything while I was there, it's time for new year's wishes:

VERY HAPPY AND WONDERFUL NEW YEAR 2012!

Personally I think this year is going to be different, amazing and memorable.

I decided that in this post I'm gonna tell about my trip to Oulu and I will post later about the year 2011 (like a summary or recap of the year). I call my boyfriend J here because it's easier to write.

Helsinki-Vantaa airport, where's the snow?

So I flew to Oulu on Thursday. It was just about two o'clock pm and it was already getting dark there (J's dad told me later that the bright time of the day lasts only about 2-4 hours during the winter months..) :D J was already at the airport by car to meet me. It was like I had come to another country - a lot of snow, darkness and it was a bit colder than in Helsinki.

During the first evening I met J's parents (and I can tell that I was nervous, it was the first time someone took me to meet his parents..!) and one of J's best friends with whom we went to J's brother's place to just hang around :) a lot of new, nice people! Later that evening we had a little incident - a little piece of J's tooth broke off and he doesn't - lightly expressed - LIKE dentists so he was a little distracted because of that. Luckily he got it taken care off already the next morning. On Friday after the dentist we went to Oulu's market hall for morning coffees. The market hall reminded the one in Helsinki (Hakaniemi market hall) - for example fresh fish, bakery products and some textiles/handwork products were sold there.

Later that day we saw a few of J's friends and went around some shops in Oulu with them. We also went to buy some wines and drinks and J and his brother made also jello shots (I hadn't tasted those before and now, no, can't call them delicious :D!) for the next day (NYE).

J's friends wanted to go for drinks and to a bar already on Friday but we didn't go along as we both were having a flu (as did J's parents too). I also wanted to save some energy for new years eve :-D
On Saturday we went to sauna, dressed up for party and went to J's brother's house to spend the evening. Eventually there were quite a lot of people and everyone was more or less drunk! in the night we left to another place to celebrate the midnight.

We had some fireworks but not anything big (thank god, I'm afraid of them). The year turned to another by kissing and hugging with my own J and I wouldn't have wanted to be with anyone else :) happiness <3

We left the place after 2.30am, some people went to a bar but we went to J's brother's place with J to sleep and so on. In the morning a woke up to feel a terrible headache. okay I admit it was a hangover. At some point we went to J's parents' house just to spend the hangover-day by lying around and sleeping and eating and watching TV. That's how we spent Sunday.

On Monday we went to see the new Sherlock Holmes -movie with J's friend and his girlfriend. I liked the movie even though it was quite a long. After the movie we went to eat to an Indian restaurant (I hadn't tried before) and it was good, even though I wasn't that hungry after eating candies during the movie. On Tuesday we didn't do anything special except packing because I left in the afternoon. J drove me to the airport. I could have stayed longer because I had good time there and especially - good company! My flight was about half an hour late and my uncle came to pick me up from the airport. J stayed there for one night still, he comes home today by train. Now I'm just home trying to get rid of this stupid flu! >:(
